RECRUITMENT & BID DISTRIBUTION

We are still recruiting new members. Are we able to keep recruiting?

  • Yes, you can and should continue to build relationships with potential new members, even if that means connecting virtually. You can use texting, FaceTime, Instagram, Snapchat, Zoom, Facebook Messenger, or any other medium to reach out and keep the conversation going. It is very important to not let the relationships you’ve built with PNMs thus far fall by the wayside!

  • In the event there are still in-person opportunities to connect—like over a meal or coffee—you may continue to meet with PNMs to the extent you and the PNM are comfortable doing so.

Can we still extend bids?

  • Yes, you may continue to extend bids. You may need to use virtual methods to do so. However, you should check with your campus Fraternity and Sorority Life office/advisor to find out how campus procedures are being modified for processes like signing the MRABA agreements.

  • Example Script for Extending a Bid Over the Phone/Via FaceTime:  “Hey, Maci! I would love to be able to do this in person, but since we are on a campus suspension this is the next best option, and I couldn’t wait to ask you. We’ve been hanging out for a while, and you’ve really impressed me and demonstrated that you are {insert positive attributes about this PNM here}. I’ve got a lot of respect for you, and these are the same qualities that Tri Delta looks for in its members. My sisters and I would love to extend you a bid for membership to Tri Delta. Will you accept our invitation?”

  • Try not to do this via text message/social media, this is a personal ask that should not be treated too casually. This is a lifelong decision they are making so still treat it as such. Feel free to get creative with your ask! One example is that you and your Tri Delta roommates could make a TikTok video asking her to join our sisterhood. Despite these challenging circumstances, we still want every PNM to feel special and excited to join Tri Delta!

  • If your campus is permitting your chapter to continue extending bids through a suspension of in-person and non-essential activities, you may extend the bids and have all new members holdover until the Fall semester, at which time they will participate in Ritual Ceremonies and start their new member education program. Please confirm with your campus that holdovers are permitted.

How can we conduct membership selection?

  • If you need to conduct business such as membership selection, you may do so during a virtual chapter meeting. If you chose to use a Zoom, there is a polling feature that can be utilized for voting. It is confidential so members’ votes will not be publicly shared. Continue to follow all of the expectations for discussion as outlined in the Membership Manual.

What do we do about new member Ritual Ceremonies?

  • New member Ritual Ceremonies cannot be conducted virtually. If your campus is permitting your chapter to continue extending bids through a suspension of in-person and non-essential activities, you may extend the bids and have all new members holdover until the fall semester, at which time they will participate in Ritual Ceremonies and start their new member education program. Please confirm with your campus that holdovers are permitted.

What if we have to reschedule Initiation?

  • If your campus has suspended in-person classes and non-essential activities, do not proceed with Initiation until campus resumes normal activities.

  • If your campus is anticipating a suspension of in-person classes and non-essential activities, you may initiate new members as soon as possible and expect to complete the New Member Program activities following Initiation (some virtually and others when the campus resumes normal activities). Initiation should be held in small groups – fewer than 10 people.
