GENERAL

What if someone in our chapter tests positive for COVID-19?

  • Follow all guidelines laid out by the CDC and your institution. Currently, instructions involve self-quarantines. Members who require quarantine should not do so in a chapter living facility. If the student is in on-campus housing, you should follow the institution’s instructions. If the student is in an Alpha Sigma Tau House Corporation owned facility, you should begin work immediately with the local House Corporation Officers to develop a plan of action.

  • Members who have tested positive for COVID-19 should not attend in-person chapter events until they are cleared by medical professionals to do so. There shall be no negative consequences for members diagnosed with COVID-19 missing chapter events.

My school hasn't shut down but I'm scared to go out. What should I do?

  • First, take a moment. It’s ok to acknowledge this uncertainty can be scary. But we also want to try and stay focused on what we do know so we can make good, healthy, and safe choices. Let’s turn to some experts for instruction. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has outlined some great resources and we’ve summarized them for members here

  • If your feelings of fear escalate and are impacting your ability to function, you may need to speak with someone in your campus health center or student counseling services. If those offices are full or backlogged, do some research for similar services in your local area.

  • If those are not options and you feel like you might be in a state of crisis, you may wish to consider reaching out to Crisis Text Line. Crisis Text Line serves anyone, in any type of crisis, providing access to free, 24/7 support and information via a medium people already use and trust: text. Text HOME to 741741 from anywhere in the United States, anytime, about any type of crisis. A live, trained Crisis Counselor receives the text and responds, all from a secure platform. The volunteer Crisis Counselor will help you move from a hot moment to a cool moment.
